Too many want to follow Jesus as long as it doesn't inconvenience them. I guess you should count me in the the second school of thought you mentioned above. I would like to see a church where someone stood up and said "We are about to embark on a great adventure, but it is going to take your all. If you are with us, come. If not, please leave. there are plenty of other places that will take a minor commitment."Mattnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236664964489234024.post-29840272074589795432011-09-13T08:26:30.619-05:002011-09-13T08:26:30.619-05:00A good way to look at it. An author named Dan Glover described the journey as a beach leading to deeper and deeper water. Shallow water can be a fun experience and a great way to get comfortable in the water but sooner or later the deep water calls. Yours not only provide a platform for you to organize your personal thoughts and share useful information, they often invite (or even challenge) others to consider their own thoughts or opinions about current issues and, if desired, to share them in a response. I'm blessed by your posts and the posts of your community. Today, I'm challenged by your question. It seems every year around this time I experience this innate "flight mode" that beckons a "time out". I think if I could, I would take the entire month of October off every year. And in a most ideal world, I'd find a cabin next to a body of water in which to reside--a different location every year at that. But it's never easy to plan any time off from work or home or family, nor to follow-through. Maybe the key is to be flexible to the call of "sponteneity" like you were to your blog posts. Anyway, welcome back. May you continue to be blessed as you bless... I was also about 5 yrs. old when I first saw Jesus. My grandmother took me to an all black church one evening. We didn't go inside, because she didn't think we would be welcome; but we stood outside and listened to the singing. It was so awesome, I have never forgotten it. I asked her how many times she had been baptized (thinking that's what made people good). She explained to me what baptism really was. Then I wanted to be baptized, tool. I was six when I was baptized. 2) Jump forward 36 years... having been raised in a fundamental church where only church members could receive communion, I attended a retreat where the concept of "ecumenical" was modeled from the moment we walked in the door. All the retreat leaders and facilitators were from different faiths, and all showed reverence and respect for each other. I saw that same depth of compassion throughout the weekend. Then we were all invited to communion (barefoot in the place of worship). It was deeply liberating and catapulted me into a new "transforming" faith walk. Thanks for asking. I called my sister, a longtime Methodist, to inquire and explain my apprehension regarding my involvement in The Pathway to Discipleship and the prespects of loosing my leader and new mentor. She calmed my fears saying "if he has not heard anything by "the conference" then you are "saved.". Whew. I am looking forward to new enrichment in my faith and finding my "discipleship" role under your guidance. May God bless you and your leadership in the coming year. It sounds melodramatic, but it was a black and white moment for me in realizing the eternal damnation "I" had sentenced "him" to by withholding mercy and grace. He was weak and vulnerable (as I was when he abused me) and needed to be held. I was the only one there to hold him. While holding him, I told him that it was okay to rest, that God was with him, that God loved him, and that I loved him. As I felt the relief and calm wash over his body in that last breath, I, too, experienced it. It was amazing. But the question remains... can I forgive another person, in that same way, who is still very much alive, who also doesn't acknowledge his offense. I'm working on it, sometimes daily. And this experience helps me justify the process, because in truth, it really is "me" who was freed from that eternal damnation.TPHoppernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236664964489234024.post-19248553070118068712011-05-22T06:48:35.531-05:002011-05-22T06:48:35.531-05:00that & smell-o-vision seem to be the only thin...that & smell-o-vision seem to be the only things technology has left to replicate ... oh wait, that one has already happened.
